Fucoidan is a hot point of conversation internationally as scientific evidence attesting to its bioactivity continues to emerge. The latest addition to the growing body of peer-reviewed fucoidan literature is Therapies from Fucoidan: An Update – a review published in the latest issue from Marine Drugs and written by Marinova’s Chief Scientist, Dr Helen Fitton, along with Dr Damien Stringer (Operations Manager) and Dr Sam Karpiniec (Senior Chemist).

The updated review follows on from Dr Fitton’s 2011 review (Therapies from Fucoidan; Multifunctional Marine Polymers) and draws attention to the latest evidence on the therapeutic possibilities of fucoidan, as well as highlighting developments in fucoidan analytical methods. Greater understanding of these methods and the pharmacokinetics of fucoidan is fundamental to improving the efficacy of fucoidan delivery within nutritional pharmaceutical, cosmeceutical, veterinary and – interestingly – biomedical applications. The review also discusses new research on fucoidan as an adjunct therapy in cancer and inflammatory diseases.

Marine Drugs is the leading peer-reviewed open-access journal on the research, development and production of drugs sourced from the ocean. The journal is published monthly and is indexed by high visibility databases such as the Science Citation Index Expanded (Web of Science) and MEDLINE (PubMed).
