New studies reveal additional benefits of Maritech® fucoidan in gut and digestive health

Maritech® fucoidan has been shown through comprehensive research to exhibit diverse benefits in gut and digestive health. Extracted from wild Undaria pinnatifida and Fucus vesiculosus seaweeds, these profound benefits are attributed to the powerful anti-inflammatory and anti-pathogenic bioactivity of Maritech® fucoidan.

Recent research has confirmed the effectiveness of Maritech® fucoidan in reducing gut inflammation and colitis, inhibiting viral and bacterial infections in the GI tract and preventing colon cancer.

Now, new evidence reveals the protective benefits of Maritech® fucoidan on beneficial bacteria during antibiotic use. In an in vitro study involving the common antibiotic gentamicin, Maritech® fucoidan was shown to protect levels of good Escherichia coli bacteria which naturally reside in the human gut. Importantly, Maritech® fucoidan was also shown to have no adverse impact on the action of gentamicin against pathogenic Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.

This new research also showed that Maritech® fucoidan can effectively inhibit the growth of fungus and yeast strains associated with compromised digestive function. Maritech® fucoidan inhibited the growth of the fungus species, Aspergillus brasiliensis, and yeast species, Candida albicans, in vitro. These microbiota are naturally found in the human GI tract, but have the ability to overgrow and cause digestive problems, particularly in people who are immunocompromised.
